Your privilege is not entirely American. I have the same privilege having been raised in a stable, middle-class, non-violent home in a big city, Nairobi. This story made my heart hurt. The normalization of violence is not surprising to me as I saw/heard of it often enough growing up, but it's the helplessness, the feeling of being completely useless and inadequate in the situation, that will frustrate me the most. The violence that women and girls especially, face in many parts of Africa, is what I hope to have a hand in reducing. I don't even know where to begin! Keep you head up. Keep writing. I'm sorry for all your losses and for the emotional roller coaster you experienced. You are appreciated!nagawahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12566533113969256569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7852871663170610262.post-83653805198501867442015-04-21T19:32:04.983-07:002015-04-21T19:32:04.983-07:00Hi Barbara. I hope to learn how to see my own privilege as an American citizen and try to appreciate life in a different way one day. I am currently applying for the Peace Corps, and I find your blog to be very eye-opening.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09970308824938339960noreply@blogger.com
